We had the extreme pleasure of dancing weightless during the White Party last year while Kerli was on stage. Now she is back with a new single “Zero Gravity.” Who knows better than no gravity than this diva. She will make you dance like you are raving for your life.
Moon Children’ followers of Estonian dance-pop Kerli are celebrating the arrival of “Zero Gravity,” the first new advance track from her long-awaited second album due later this year. It follows-up her widely praised Island Records debut of 2008, Love Is Dead, and the success from the release of her #1 Billboard Dance/Club single, “Army Of Love.” “Zero Gravity” is up for sale at iTunes, and the video will debut today on VEVO. In addition, April 3rd Kerli will be releasing multiple re-mixes for “Zero Gravity,” including a remix by world renowned DJ, Laidback Luke.
The release of “Zero Gravity” coincides with the 2012 Winter Music Conference in Miami Beach, March 16-25th, which is highlighted by the 27th annual IDMAs (International Dance Music Awards). Kerli will be on hand for a number of IDMA events and promotions, culminating with her red carpet appearance on the day of the awards – Thursday, March 22nd – where she is also expected to present an IDMA.
In January 2012, Kerli was pleased to announce her partnership with Buzznet.com, the web’s largest social magazine written for youth by youth, where fans can communicate directly with the artist and read the latest updates from Kerli herself on her official blog at kerli.buzznet.com. Buzznet is the web’s largest social magazine and music lifestyle community created for its members by its members, and as of February 2012, (Kerli’s first month on Buzz) has garnered 2.5 million total of views, and growing!
Kerli won millions of new fans in 2010, when visionary director Tim Burton chose her to perform “Tea Party” on the iTunes #1 soundtrack album Almost Alice, music by various artists inspired by Disney’s Alice In Wonderland, the record-breaking #1 box office movie smash. (Almost Alice also featured “Strange,” Kerli’s duet with Tokio Hotel.) Burton first became a Kerli fan after seeing her perform “Walking on Air” at the fall 2008 Scream Awards where he was being honored. During the performance, Kerli dazzled the crowd with elaborate visual effects and background characters inspired by Burton’s own body of work.
Kerli’s edgy musical savvy – drawing comparisons to Bjork and Annie Lennox – grew at least partly from her upbringing in newly independent Estonia. She spent most of her “tough love” childhood trying to transcend her surroundings by immersing herself in the arts, studying vocals, ballet, acting, and classical piano. By age 14, she knew what her focus would be. “I was so sure that my life was going to be all about singing…I quit everything else.”
This torrent of aural and visual explosions is unleashed on Kerli’s Facebook www.facebook.com/Kerli, which currently includes multiple versions of “Tea Party” and the Triple-A radio favorite “Walking On Air”(from Love Is Dead). The website – also featuring her cover of the American standard “Nature Boy” which was featured in the 2011 season finale spots for Smallville – boasts more than 5.3 million profile views, and more than 11.1 million total plays. Kerli can also be heard on the popular compilation series released in the U.S. and internationally, So You Think You Can Dance, which has featured “Tea Party,” “Walking On Air,” and“Beautiful Day.”
Kerli is a fascinating, magnetic young presence, whose talents as a songwriter are progressing at an extraordinary pace. “I’m trying to create a world around my music,” she says. “And this world needs to be pure, real, honest and beautiful but still a little interesting, dark and definitely mysterious.”
