Many of us have seen the Grindr pop-up ads when we sign-in lately advertising that a new Unlimited is coming soon. Most likely before WorldPride. While they keep us all in suspense of what ‘unlimited’ could possibly mean we take a look.
A few months ago Grindr was running some sort of a user test that looked like a monadic pricing. We were being probed about features such as unlimited guys in the grid (instead of 300/600 limit) and see who’s viewed your profile.
They also had features such as “see who’s viewed your profile” which some say would absolutely kill the casual nature of browsing on the app and make people less likely to look at other profiles. OKCupid got rid of profile views for exactly this reason.
A “prove you’re real” feature could also be in the works.
Not everyone wants to post their social media on Grindr or give up their Snapchat. How about an in-app feature that creates two random hand signs for someone to take two pictures and send them as proof they are real?
A watermark that showed the date it was taken would be super helpful too, and show that it was taken on the Grindr app.
Grindr could be at work with even something greater. Much like how new users have a little blue star, verified users would have a green star or check mark.
In the meantime, some are simply just taking a piece of paper that says Grindr with the current date and take a picture of myself with that to verify their legit. It also gets pictures approved more quickly too.
What about video?
Some Grindr users are also seeing a beta video tab appear then disappear. We are haering it’s not to video chat with other users but to play Grindr-made videos most likely with advertising at some point. This will likely be a huge disappointment along with the gifs that no one really uses on the app. No one gets on the hook-up and dating app to watch videos about RPDR or interviews about stuff we can watch on Twitter or other media.
