Poof Doof is a popular gay circuit party or rave in Melbourne that bills itself “a gay club for homos.” It also hosts pop up events in other Australian cities, including Perth and Sydney.
Organizers are scrambling to do damage control after a damning internal document leaked on social media. The document features strict guidelines on which types of people should be photographed at Poof Doof parties and which types of people are “not as beautiful” as the buff “gogo-gods”.
While we can understand to keep drunken lads or girls out of certain parties we do not understand the hate when it comes to not having the perfect body. They also take it too far when it comes to drag queens.
“Drag Queens. But ONLY the BEST. And never more than 3-4. And once they’ve had their photo taken once, that’s it. Forever.”
In regards to undesirables, the list includes:
“Messy Boys. Anyone who looks like they’ve packed down a 10-pack, is OUT.”
“Skinny boys in burgundy tshirts and chinos. They are a dime a dozen. There is nothing interesting nor cool about them.”
“Indi boys. They are not Power Poof worthy unless they are BREATHTAKINGLY good looking or epically stylish.”
“Boys with Bad Skin.”
Gay party under fire over leaked doc banning “women, skinny boys, boys with bad skin”
Susie Robinson, Poof Doof’s general manager, tells Gay Star News the leaked brief is seven years old and is not reflective of the brand today. We call bullshit. This is a with ANY circuit party including Purple Party, White Party Palm Springs, Winter Party, Circuit Matinee. etc. If were wrong then email us the photos of anyone with bad skin or if their skinnier than what is considered not enough muscle. You will only see the photos posted of the ones that will get the most likes in their book.
If you look over to Poof Doof’s Instagram page shows the vast majority of photos feature cisgender “boys with muscles”, a few drag queens, and hardly anyone else. You’ll see the same on the social media profiles of the White Party Palm Springs, Winter Party, White Party Miami, Purple Party, Circuit Matinee, WE Party, SEXY Parties in Cologne, etc. In contrary, there is one circuit group that is not marketing only to the gogo-muscle gods out there and that is Orlando’s One Magical Weekend now that they are trying to take the “Gay Days Orlando” spot the first week of June.
We bring this up because it’s obvious that Poof Doof is like many parties that tell their photographers the same thing. In some cases most likely the door people at harder to enter nightclubs such as Berghain. It also is sad that people who want to come out to an event and be accepted as everyone else that they still do not fit in. They won’t exist basically. Just an invisible nobody because they don’t have enough muscles or don’t have perfect skin or are too campy. The reason these people come to these parties is to dance and let out their negative energy and they want to feel welcome and loved just like anyone else. Maybe you need to learn to open your hearts more.
