The hot Texas summer was rough this year and with all the fires and lakes disappearing throughout the state the last thing you might see is a rainbow. Rick Perry prayed and a rainbow has finally appeared. Yes, the most fabulous rainbow of all the Dallas Gay Pride Parade 2011. There were Dykes on Bikes, religious and spiritual groups, PFLAG, and many great supporters of the gay community such as Genghis Grill, Chase Bank and American Airlines. One of my favorite floats was this big bird that had a turning head (seen here). It was the most colorful float. The sexiest float goes to the gogo dancers over at Tin Room for having so many boy toys on one float sweating in their underwear. Bj’s NXS also had a float which would be runner-up with Ivana Tramp as the ringleader of the gogo boys.
We also had Edna Jean Robinson riding down the street with her Angels behind her all looking fabulous. The rose room also put on some great entertainment this weekend to try and make the thirsty guests happy after the parade. It was nearly impossible to get a drink especially before the 2am time which snuck-up on us real fast!
The highlight of Dallas pride this year was seeing Chi Chi LaRue at the Tin Room. Her music was fierce Saturday night and we did not want to leave although it was so hot we though we were suffocating. Perhaps Tin Room needs to get a new A/C. It is Texas my friends. There were also sightings from other up and coming reality TV celebs such as A-List Dallas’s James Doyle and Levi Crocker as seen riding the horse during the parade. Bravo TV’s Dallas Most Eligible Drew Ginsburg was also on hand. Local entertainers Krystal Summers and Ericka Andrews are seen on the pic below.
I am always curious what everyone thinks the best corporate float was during the parade or what company gets the most business from their float. Someone like Chick-Fil-A could have came up with a promotion and handed out free breakfast coupons and something like that would have won us all over. Or maybe Target could have came up with a “come back to Target” promotion. Kidding of course.
Dallas is one of my favorite prides but they are all great in their own town or city. The weather was hot at around 90 something but sure felt better than it could have been a few days before at 105. It’s probably the perfect time to have Pride and spaced out just enough for the Oaklawn Halloween Block party a month later. We are still waiting to hear back on the numbers from Lee Park following the parade but I would assume it would be be as busy at it was last year since it used to be free of charge and now they do not let you bring in your coolers and pay a cover. That caused some controversy and they really gave no good reason for the price increase from free to $5. They should have booked talent such as Wynter Gordan (“Til Death”), Deborah Cox, or even had Adam Lambert come rock everybody and made us feel like a $5 or $10 was well spent.
